Microsoft Windows Computer Error From CrowdStrike Update
Dear Faculty, Other Academic Appointees, and Staff,
As you may have heard in the news, earlier today, Friday, July 19, a software update with a defect was deployed to many Windows computers globally and is affecting computers around the world, including at UChicago. While most central systems at the University are functioning normally, this defect causes a blue screen error, similar to the image below, on devices operating Windows, and requires immediate action.
If your device is displaying this blue screen error, please restart it. If the restart is not successful, and the blue screen error re-appears, contact your local desktop support staff or call IT Services at 773.702.5800.
This error is affecting millions of Windows devices globally and may cause disruptions today at airlines, banks, and other industries.
We are continuing to monitor this and appreciate your patience as the University works to restore the impacted Windows computers.
Sincerely,
Kevin Boyd
