Miscellaneous Time Off
Miscellaneous Time Off
When you think of time off, vacation and holidays may come to mind. However, there are other times you may need to miss work. If you are a regular, benefits-eligible full-time or part-time employee (who works at least 20 hours per week), you may be eligible for the following paid time off benefits:
Court Appearances
Staff employees are eligible for time off for court appearances. You may use vacation and/or personal holidays to receive pay for time lost from work or may use unpaid time to appear in court.
Please refer to Personnel Policy 523 Court Appearances Policy for additional information and usage guidelines.
Jury Duty
The University grants time off to staff employees who are called for jury duty to meet their civic obligations.
Please refer to Personnel Policy 504 Jury Duty for additional information and usage guidelines.
School Visitations
The University encourages staff employees to participate in their children's school-related activities.
As provided in the Illinois School Visitation Rights Act, staff employees with children in primary or secondary school are eligible for eight (8) hours of unpaid leave for school visitation after six (6) months of employment and the exhaustion of accrued vacation and personal holiday time.
Benefits-eligible employees may elect to use accrued vacation or personal holiday time for school visitation consistent with University policy.
Please refer to Personnel Policy 521 School Visitation for eligibility and usage guidelines.
Voting
Typically, employees are expected to vote on their own time. If you are unable to vote during non-working hours, you may be eligible for up to 2 hours off with pay and with your supervisor's advance approval.
If you need to serve as a judge, clerk or official watcher at an election poll, you may be granted time off without pay as long as your supervisor approves your absence at least two weeks in advance.
Please refer to Personnel Policy 505 Voting for eligibility and usage guidelines.
