In honor of the 2024 Alice W. Chandler Staff Service Recognition Ceremony set for June 20, we’re profiling some of the staff members who are celebrating this year the longest tenures at the University of Chicago.

Business and Software Analyst, University of Chicago Physicians Group

 Annette Rizzuto celebrates year 45 at UChicago. She started out doing mail runs and filing support in the University of Chicago Physicians Group (UCPG) before eventually finding her fit as a business systems analyst that supports the Epic billing application.

She answered our questions about her interests and experiences:

Q: What initially brought you to the University? What role did you start in? What other roles have you held?
I had a relative tell me of a job opening. I started doing support—mail runs, filing, etc. I have had several roles here at UCPG. File person, Mail Runner, Biller, Insurance Follow-up, Supervisor, IDX Analyst, Trainer, finally finding my place in the IS department as an Analyst.

Q: How has your role changed/grown over the past 45 years?
I was able to learn a lot by doing different part of the billing cycle which helped me understand the whole process.

Q: Where are you originally from?
I grew up In Calumet City, Illinois.

Q: What is it that you enjoy most about your role?
It’s never dull. There’s always something new every day.

Q: What is it that you enjoy about UChicago? What’s kept you here all these years?
I like the people I work with, and my boss—there are several people that I have worked with 35+ years still here.

Q: Do you have any favorite UChicago-related memories from over the years that you can share with us?
Morry's Deli in Hyde Park has always had great BBQ pastrami sandwiches!
