Marissa Swistowicz, Training Specialist in Shared Services was the Fall 2020 recipient of the F&A Phoenix Award. She's been with the University since July 2017. Read more about Marissa in the below Q&A, originally published by Finance & Administration after she won the award last fall. 

Q: What is your role within F&A, and how does it help deliver on F&A’s mission to the University? 

I am a Training Specialist within the Shared Services Office, supporting Procurement Services and the Procure-2-Pay team within Shared Services.  My role is unique as I get to collaborate with various business partners to spread the word on how to improve processes and inform faculty and staff on upcoming changes to our systems.

Due to my training expertise, I also get called on to support our University affiliates and various campus departments.  I recently collaborated with IT Services with creating training content for use in most recent ServiceNow upgrade and supported Academic Tech by hosting sessions of Introduction to Zoom for Remote Teaching.  All of my work ensures I can provide campus the service and support needed to foster an environment of academic and research excellence.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working for UChicago?

My favorite thing about working for UChicago is the diverse background of my coworkers.  It helps provide multiple perspectives in our collaboration process.

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?

I’ve been a Girl Scout for 22 years, 12 years as a girl member, and 10 as a volunteer.
