Training and Reference Materials
All Oracle users are encouraged to begin their Oracle learning journey by reviewing the Buying Something at UChicago Quick Start Guide.
Training based on your Oracle and Orbit access will be assigned to you through Workday Learning. Visit Workday learning to see the unique learning path assigned for your Oracle and Orbit needs.
Keep in Mind
A user’s system access is determined by their unit’s designated role assignment owner. If you are missing the system access you need for your daily tasks, work with your role assignment owner to obtain it.
Getting Started
The training team recommends that all faculty members become familiar with basic Oracle and Orbit functionality, so you are able to utilize the systems and understand the data being entered and processed in them.

Managing Research Funding
Faculty members who are allocated research funding are encouraged to learn how to find the financial data about their funding in Oracle and use the system to manage their funding. To get started, utilize the following materials:

Getting Started
Operational finance leaders are designated as entity financial managers (EFMs) and organization financial managers (OFMs) in Oracle. They are responsible for the financial management of their respective units. They are focused on ensuring their operational accounts remain within budget and manage the reporting of financial activity within their unit.
It is required that EFMs and OFMs be familiar with Oracle and Orbit functionality and able to utilize the systems and understand the data being entered and processed in them.

Project finance leaders are designated as project managers, department research administrators, and/or individual awards and discretionary funds (IADF) administrators in Oracle. They are responsible for the financial management of research funding in their given portfolio(s).
