ArborScope Campus Tree Inventory
In Autumn 2025, a tree inventory was conducted for the entire 217-acre campus. During this process, trees were tagged and assigned a serial number found on a tag attached to each tree, to facilitate the creation of an online database. The database includes information about each tree including its genus, species, condition assessment, and age.

The purpose of the Campus Tree Care Plan is to assist the University in making informed decisions regarding all aspects of tree stewardship. As we utilize this framework to pursue and apply this knowledge, knowing that it will evolve over time, the preservation and distinctive sense of place that embodies the University of Chicago will be sustained.
Campus Forest Analysis and Recommendation Report
Developed in partnership between Environmental Frontiers and Facilities Services, the Campus Forest Analysis and Recommendations (CFAR) report combines current University tree management practices with a data-based analysis of campus forest properties. In addition, an extensive literature review of ecosystem services and climate change projections were analyzed to develop actionable recommendations to strengthen the University of Chicago’s campus forest.
