Oracle and Orbit Training for Research/Project Finance Leaders

Getting Started

Project finance leaders are designated as Project Managers, Department Research Administrators, and/or Individual Awards and Discretionary Funds (IADF) Administrators in Oracle. They are responsible for the financial management of research funding in their given portfolio(s), with a focus on keeping research within budget and overseeing the reporting of financial activity within their portfolio(s).

These leaders are required to be familiar with Oracle and Orbit functionality and be able to use the systems effectively and understand the data entered and processed in them.

To get started, review the following materials:

In addition, the following reference guides are recommended to support you in your learning journey:

All full-time, benefits-eligible staff are provided with access to Oracle Cloud to purchase goods and services. We recommend starting your purchasing journey by completing the UChicago Purchasing and Payables Essentials in Workday Learning.

Additional System Privileges

In some cases, Project Finance Leaders may need expanded system access to complete or review specific Oracle transactions. Training programs have been designed to support different types of Oracle usage. If and when you are granted additional Oracle and/or Orbit access, the corresponding training program(s) will be assigned to you in Workday Learning, where you can access and complete any required training.
