Oracle and Orbit Training for Staff and Students

Getting Started

The training team recommends that all staff members become familiar with basic Oracle and Orbit functionality to effectively use these systems and understand the data entered and processed in them. To get started, review the following materials:

All full-time, benefits-eligible staff are provided with access to Oracle to purchase goods and services. We recommend starting your purchasing journey by completing the UChicago Purchasing and Payables Essentials in Workday Learning.

Student Workers

Student workers who need access to Oracle should work with their supervisors, who can contact the unit’s role assignment owner to request access based on the student’s job responsibilities. Once the request is submitted, any required training tied to the role will be automatically assigned in Workday Learning.

Journal Submitters (Journal Entries) and Provider Unit Administrators

Before being assigned as a Journal Submitter or Provider Unit Administrator you are required to complete training to familiarize yourself with Oracle and Orbit functionalities. This will enable you to use the systems effectively and understand the data entered and processed in them. You can begin your learning journey prior to your official training assignment by enrolling in Oracle and Orbit Training for Journal Submitters or Oracle and Orbit Training for Provider Unit Administrator, as appropriate.

Additional System Access

In some cases, users may need additional system access to complete or review Oracle transactions. Training programs have been designed to support different types of Oracle usage. If and when you are granted additional Oracle and/or Orbit access, the corresponding training program(s) will be assigned to you in Workday Learning, where you can access and complete any required training.
