Academic Technology Solutions

Academic Technology Solutions (ATS) works directly with faculty to explore and support new ways of approaching academic endeavors using online tools, digital materials, and other technology solutions. This unit operates and supports key enterprise academic technology platforms such as the learning management system (Canvas), the video management system (Panopto), along with a number of other services that enable faculty to use technology to enhance learning experiences. ATS also oversees and supports the technology in centrally-managed learning spaces and works with partners across campus to provide support for digital learning assets.

The Administrative Operations team provides communications, human resources, and administrative support to IT Services and campus partners.

Enterprise Applications and Services

Enterprise Applications and Services (EAS) is responsible for the critical enterprise systems and web solutions utilized by the University to digital solutions and services to support faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

The EAS team partners closely with Admissions, Alumni Relations and Development, Campus and Student Life, Finance, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Research, and Shared Services to prioritize and deliver on the enterprise needs of the University. These solutions are developed and maintained by the Analytic and Business Information Services (ABIS) team, Enterprise Systems team, Project Management and Business Analysis Organization (PMBAO), University Systems team, and Web Services team. EAS also provided oversight to the Financial Systems Transformation (FST) Team.

Information Security

The University’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and the Information Security (IS) team are responsible for online safety and security programs and identity and access management efforts, serving the University and its faculty, students, staff, and partners. The team also works collaboratively with University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences Division in executing the institution’s information security program.

Infrastructure and Operations

The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) oversees the Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) teams, which include voice and data networking, communications infrastructure, service operations, data center operations and services, service desk, desktop support, collaboration tools, and cloud computing.

The I&O teams provide the networking and voice services that connect UChicago users within the institution and to the world. The teams provide support for the Science DMZ, a purpose-built research network that provides UChicago data intensive researchers a dedicated, high-speed network pathway to collaborate globally. I&O is also responsible for the University’s three enterprise data centers that support administrative and research computing, including Midway 1, Midway 2, and the Genomic Data Commons.

The support teams provide 24/7 service to the University community, managing tools and services that provide reliable and secure computing resources to our users. I&O is also responsible for the support of collaboration tools, such as Office 365, Zoom and Box.

Project Management and Business Analysis Organization

The Project Management and Business Analyst Organization (PMBAO) ensures that projects align with business goals, are delivered on time and within budget, and meet stakeholder expectations. The PMBAO is responsible for successfully delivering technology projects that meet business requirements and priorities. We collaborate with IT Services and campus partners at UChicago to scope, plan, and manage technology projects.
