The recommended actions below are guidelines from Human Resources. As department HR practices may vary, please consult with your supervisor, HR Partner or department administrator for additional guidance.

Note: Some of the resource pages listed below require you to log in to the UChicago Intranet. New hires generally gain full access to the UChicago Intranet within the first week after their start date, once the individual has activated their CNetID, their HR representative has entered their data into Workday, and the identity management system adds the individual to their correct Grouper groups. If you do not have intranet access after these steps have been completed, email us at uchicagointranet@uchicago.edu.

Six Month Tasks

  • Make sure to meet with your supervisor to discuss your performance.  During this discussion you will identify what has worked well and what needs improvement in terms of your performance, your successes and achievements and mutually set goals for the next review period.

  • The University provides a suite of online e-learning modules to help staff understand and fulfill your role in the Performance Management process. Each module is designed to be completed in 10-15 minutes and can be done at your desk at your own pace. Topics include goal setting, individual growth and development plans, feedback and coaching, mid-year review and performance appraisals.

  • During Open Enrollment in the fall, you'll have the chance to make changes to your benefits. However, if you experience certain "life events," you may be able to make changes to your health and welfare benefits without having to wait. The Benefits Website can help you learn more about qualifying life events and what they mean to you.

  • Learn about additional benefits and perks and discounts for University staff.

  • The “Get Involved” page on the UChicago Intranet features a wide range of one-time and ongoing programs, offerings, and resources for both academics and staff who want to deepen their connections to campus life and local communities.

  • Explore the Welcome to Hyde Park website for an interactive map of restaurants, events, shopping, landmarks, and more.

  • Explore the UChicago Admission's page on visiting the University, including information on accommodations, tours, neighborhood attractions, dining, shopping, architecture, maps, transportation, and other frequently asked questions.

  • Attend an in-person or virtual event (many of them free) sponsored by one of the many schools, divisions, centers, units, and other areas on campus. Check out the daily updated Events home page on the UChicago Intranet to see what’s happening.
