The University offers Postdoctoral Researchers two (2) medical plan options from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. One plan is a PPO and one is an HMO, allowing you to select the type of coverage that works best for your family.

The University of Chicago offers Postdoctoral Researchers two dental plans from MetLife Dental.

In 2026, Postdoctoral Researchers will be offered the same vision plans through VSP that is offered to faculty, other academics and staff. As in the past, you will have the option of two vision plans.

The University of Chicago provides basic life, accidental death and dismemberment, short-term disability and long -term insurance coverage from The Standard to Postdoctoral Researchers at no cost to them. Postdocs can also purchase supplemental life insurance for added protection.

Plan for your financial future by contributing to the Retirement Plans offered to eligible Postdoctoral Researchers. COBRA offers Postdoctoral Researchers the option to continue their medical, dental and vision coverage for a period of time after their appointments with The University end.
